Michael West CBE is Senior Fellow at The King’s Fund, London and Professor at Lancaster University. His PhD in 1977 was on the psychology of meditation. He has produced 20 books and 200 publications on teamwork, innovation, compassionate leadership, and culture. He supports Health Education and Improvement Wales in its ten-year strategy on compassionate leadership. He co-chaired the UK General Medical Council inquiry into the well-being of doctors: Caring for Doctors, Caring for Patients (2019) and led the The King’s Fund review of well-being of nurses and midwives: The Courage of Compassion (2020). He was appointed a CBE in the Queen’s Honours List for services to compassion in healthcare.
